Welcome to The 2022/23
Choreography Creation Intensive!

Hello Choreography Creation Intensive 2022/23 Participants!

Congrats on taking on this challenge! I hope that you’re excited and maybe a little nervous, but overall excited to dig in and get this process going. This intensive will likely challenge you in ways yet to be known, but I am here to support you every step of the way! I dedicate a significant amount of time to this series over the next 6 months so that each and every one of you has my attention, support, and guidance on your own individual process. I humbly say that I am your greatest resource in this intensive, so use me ;) I am here for you, so take advantage of my 20 years of experience to help you learn, evolve, grow, and succeed :)

Below you will find the pre-intensive assignments that should be completed by Sept 16th so that you can start the intensive on track! Please read through this, and don’t avoid finding your music, sometimes that process can drag on and it will put you behind.

Goal Setting

Do yourself the favor of watching this video and using this system to help you structure your time in the intensive. This program requires dedication, focus, stamina, and flexibility. We will go over this in our first Live Group Session.

Submit Your Song Options (Priority)

SELECT 3-5 SONGS FOR YOUR PIECE & SUBMIT FOR REVIEW

  • Start thinking about the style of the piece you would like to do and find 3-5 suitable songs. Plan on keeping your piece under 5 minutes, around 4 minutes is ideal. If you find songs you like but are too long, just consider editing them down, if that’s a reasonable option with the specific piece of music. For the purpose of this intensive, please pick a more traditional based style; Folklore, Turkish, Egyptian, Golden Era, etc. This program will benefit the creation of fusion projects in the future, but its instruction is based on more classical Middle Eastern Dance genres, so please avoid pure fusion songs or choreographies that are based in a fusion approach. Contact me if you have questions.

  • If you need resources for music you can use Spotify, Anghami, and check out recently released albums like  Kareem Gad's Soni'a Fi Masr, Mercedes Nieto’s Zikrayet, Shahrzad’s AlHaan Zaman or Leylit Shahrazad, Mohamed Shahin’s Tak Taka, just to name a few. Remember to ask around, ask friends, ask online for suggestions, collect a bunch of music and entertain different ideas. Overall think of what your objectives with the piece will be and choose music that can fit that idea. If you need specific guidance in looking for music, please write to me.

  • Once you have collected your 3-5 songs, submit them to amandaroseonline@gmail.com for review. Please send the actual songs, not just the name, as I don’t have an infinite catalog of music ;). Try and submit this sooner rather than later. Definitely before Sept 16th, or within a week, in order to start off the intensive on the right foot.

  • You are free to use music that you’ve danced to before, or even choreographed before, but it might be difficult to start this process if you have an overly defined idea of your song, it could make it hard to look past that. If you feel you can be flexible and are not stuck on a specific idea, this could be fine. If there’s a song you’ve always wanted to work with or one you’ve never been brave enough to take on, maybe it’s the time ;)

CHOREOGRAPHY CREATION INTRO QUESTIONNAIRE

Click here to fill out the Choreography Creation Questionnaire!

This will help me get to know you, assess your objectives and goals, know how you would like to focus during this program and how I can best assist you. It will also help define your goals for yourself, and plan your steps to put your plan into motion. This program is 6 months long, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. You don’t need to be perfect, it's better to have imperfect steps forward than freeze under the pressure of everything having to be amazing. Make your goals reasonable, and make the steps to achieving them logical. Don’t assume or even try to spend 10 hours a week on this project, you’ll burn out fast. Better yet, try to do 2-3 hours, scattered throughout the week. Small chunks of 15-20 mins work really well. If you can maintain that, you’ll surely find progress at the end of the journey.

SCHEDULE YOUR INTRO CHAT W/ AMANDA ROSE!

Let’s have a chat! Every one of you has 3 hours of private lessons to use throughout this series that can be done in 30 min or 1-hour formats. Make sure you go to the Participant Homepage so you see how to schedule your private lessons. We will talk about this in our first Live Group Session. I strongly suggest that you schedule a 30-min Intro Chat with me at the start of this series. This isn’t mandatory, you can definitely wait, but usually, I can help ground the process and understand what each dancer is looking for so I can best guide them throughout the intensive.

I truly believe that meeting one on one, early in this series, will ground us in the process together, gets us on the same page, bring clarity to your vision, goals, and doubts for this series, and will help us start this journey with our best dancing foot forward.

The Chat will be most helpful and beneficial if you have already completed your other pre-series homework or if it is partially completed. If you’re struggling to pick a song, this is another reason to schedule this chat!

SEND AMANDA ROSE A VIDEO OF YOURSELF!

I want to see you dance! In order to get to know you each better, I'd love for you to submit a video of yourself that you are proud of, think represents you well, or whatever you feel is appropriate. This video does not have to be a public performance, you do not need to wear a costume and makeup. If you don't have a video that you want to send that's fine, but I would love to see you dancing so I can get a better sense of your technique, style, and personality in movement. You can email it with your song selections to amandaroseonline@gmail.com
